Advanced ceramics, also known as engineered ceramics, are distinguished from conventional ceramics by their increased strength, higher operating temperatures, enhanced toughness, and customizability. These materials are taking the place of metals in applications where lower density and higher melting points can improve efficiency and speed of operation.
Ceramic materials used in technical applications as technical ceramics or advanced ceramics must meet extremely stringent property requirements. The spectrum of properties includes wear and heat resistance, temperature and corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and food compatibility.
Because of their diverse properties, technical ceramics can be used in a wide range of applications, including automotive, electronics, medical technology, energy and the environment, as well as general equipment and mechanical engineering.
